“3 And Out”: 3-Oh So Close; The BS Show With Bob Sansevere, 9.9.24
Every Monday during college football season on The BS Show with Bob Sansevere, Bob and I devote our 3 And Out Segment to a recap of Minnesota’s two Division I teams – the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers and the University of St. Thomas Tommies – and its best non-Division I team, the St. John’s University Johnnies.
This past weekend, the Gophers notched a predictable easy win over Rhode Island…and then celebrated as if they had just defeated Notre Dame (more on that in a moment). The Johnnies did one point better than the Gophers, beating Carthage 49-0.
My Tommies ALMOST made it 3-0 for the weekend for our 3 And Out teams, and looked to be on track to score a big upset over the University of Northern Iowa (a team that beat them 44-3 in their inaugural D-1 season). Instead, the Tommies caused a fumble which UNI recovered and scored a touchdown on. Despite there being two minutes left to play in the game after that, the Tommies couldn’t tie the score and wound up losing 17-10. Measured against their previous loss to UNI, this was an improvement, but in the end a loss is a loss, and the Tommies find themselves at 0-2 having dropped two straight games at home, something that hasn’t happened since…well probably since I was a student there.
As a couple of “bonus” items, we also covered Iowa State’s last minute win over #21 Iowa after being down by 13 points at halftime. We also touched on Notre Dame paying Northern Illinois $1.4 Million to come play them…and then lost to them after missing a potential game winning field goal.
