Inauguration Day Audio Blitz: Jon Justice and The BS Show With Bob Sansevere, January 20, 2025

Monday, January 20, 2025 was one of those rare days when my radio appearances stack up upon each other.

At 7:30 am, I called in to Jon Justice’s show. While I was just on last Thursday, so many news items from the legal world came down on Friday that we scheduled a return appearance to recap them all. First, it was the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling upholding the TikTok ban. Then it was on to CNN settling a defamation suit after losing a court ruling. We also covered a couple of state legal matters; namely, the Judge in Senator Nicole Mitchell’s burglary trial granting her motion to delay her trial until after the Legislative Session, and the Minnesota Supreme Court canceling a pending special election in Minnesota House District 40B due to the fact that Governor Walz broke the law in calling it, including a discussion of how that ruling could impact the companion dispute involving what number constitutes a quorum in the Minnesota House (more on that later this week).

You can listen to that discussion here.

Then it was on to record my weekly segment for The BS Show With Bob Sansevere. Normally, our weekly “3 And Out” segment covers three sports topics of my choosing. This morning, Bob changed it up a bit, and had us discuss three broader topics; namely, NFL playoffs, college sports and politics (given that it was President Trump’s inauguration day today). After recapping the weekend’s playoff games, I made my predictions for Championship weekend (listen to find out who I’m going with). Then it was on to college sports, where we chatted about the University of St. Thomas’ five year postseason probationary period is being shortened to four years and that UST teams will be playoff-eligible beginning in the Fall of 2025. Unfortunately, that change won’t benefit the red-hot Tommies men’s basketball team, which went to 4-0 in the Summit League following a weekend win over Denver. We also discussed the performance of the University of Minnesota women’s cheer team. Finally, Bob wanted to talk politics given the insanity presently taking place in St. Paul. I always enjoy having the opportunity to discuss the same stories with Jon and Bob and having them take different positions from each other – it keeps me on my toes!
