The BS Show, 8.28.23: “3 And Out” – MLB Relocation, Wander Franco Investigation, and Two Mets Legends to Be Honored in 2024
Each week on Monday’s edition of The BS Show with Bob Sansevere, Bob and I do a segment called “3 And Out”, which is three stories of note, linked with a common theme.
On the August 28, 2023 edition of the show, our theme was “off-field baseball issues”. Our first topic was the news that both the Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago White Sox may be eyeing greener pastures in an effort to pressure lawmakers to spend money on stadium improvements.
Up next was our discussion of the recent revelation that Tampa Bay Rays star Wander Franco, who just two years ago was the top prospect in baseball, is the focus of an investigation that he may have had inappropriate relationships with not one, but two, underage girls. It is a shocking (and if true, disgusting) story that threatens to derail what seemed to be a promising MLB career.
Our third topic was one near and dear to my heart; namely, that the New York Mets have announced that they will retire the numbers of Darryl Strawberry (No. 18) and Dwight Gooden (No. 16) during the 2024 season. As I tell Bob during the show, both Gooden and Strawberry were big in my world as a young kid growing up in the 1980s. I have said on more than one occasion that my two favorite years in baseball were 1986 and 1987, with the Mets winning the World Series in 1986 and my hometown Minnesota Twins stunning the sports world by succeeding them as champs in 1987. Gooden, aka “Dr. K”, was also a big catalyst to my collecting baseball cards. In my opinion, this is a long overdue honor for both of them and one that I’ll enjoy watching.
